FAQ
Starting an MBD initiative may seem daunting, but a successful transition offers significant long-term value for manufacturers. When approached correctly, an MBD initiative can deliver results quickly. Begin the MBD initiative in the development department to allow the team time to adapt to creating an MBD.
What is Model-Based Definition (MBD)?
Model-Based Definition is an approach to creating 3D models that include all the data required to define a product. With MBD, the model becomes the source that drives all technical activities. This model can be reused by suppliers and other organizations within a company.
How are MBD rules integrated into NX?
In user standards, folders for MBD reuse libraries can be specified. From NX 2007 and Teamcenter 13.2 onward, rule libraries can be managed with Teamcenter. We recommend creating specific folders and avoiding work in already existing folders.
Why Model-Based Definition?
Model-Based Definition offers a range of significant benefits in product development and manufacturing. First and foremost, MBD enables precise and consistent communication of design data by using 3D models as the central reference. This reduces misunderstandings and errors in communication, leading to higher quality and efficiency. Additionally, MBD simplifies adaptation to changes in the design process, as all relevant information is contained within the 3D model, thereby reducing rework. Furthermore, MBD integrates geometry data, tolerances, and other relevant information into a single model, simplifying documentation and reducing the need for separate 2D drawings. This accelerates product development and enhances the competitiveness of companies in a global industry. Overall, MBD helps improve efficiency, accuracy, and innovation in product development.
